Over at Nobu in the Waikiki Parc Hotel, bartender David Newman has a bit of a reputation.
For making dynamite drinks, that is. Somewhere along the way, word got out that Newman’s a whiz at creating cocktails at a moment’s notice, and he’s frequently challenged by adventurous drinkers at his bar to “come up with something.”
Once, the pastry chef asked him to make her something special, and using some leftover Cabernet, he created RIA, a kind of “Sangria champagne float.” It’s become one of the most popular drinks at the Nobu bar.
But that was then, and Newman’s in the now.
We asked him to make a little magic with a classic mojito. Two ounces of Patron Silver, some fresh kumquats and a bunch of mint later, we’re sipping a beautiful drink and ready for some sushi.
Patron Kumquat Mojito Ingredients:
* 2 ounces Patron Silver Tequila
* 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
* 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
* 3/4 ounce kumquat-infused simple syrup
* 2 medium-sized fresh kumquats
* 5-8 large fresh mint leaves
* 2 ounces soda water
* 1 ounce Sprite
Muddle kumquat and mint. Add Patron, Grand Marnier, lime juice and simple syrup. Shake vigorously. Pour into wineglass and top with soda and Sprite. Garnish with fresh kumquat.
