Laura Mercier business-to-dinner makeup tips
A busy life demands shortcuts, and with makeup a few essential products can help women make the transition from a dazzling day look to evening enchantment with ease.
Laura Mercier global makeup artist Tayaba Jafri says that in aiming for a “natural” appearance, most women limit themselves by choosing shades of brown when “there’s nothing natural about brown.”
Colors that work best pick up on the skin’s undertones, which may range from pink to a touch of violet, even green in Asian complexions.
Laura Mercier’s latest collection, L’heure Magique, was inspired by the magic hour – when day turns to night, Jafri says, “When everyone looks good. Everyone’s skin is luminous and imperfections go away.”
The collection aims to capture the hues of sunset in three palettes – Mauve Sunset, Midnight Sun and Blue Hour ($38 each) – with colors ranging from shimmering peach to deep blue.
For day, Mercier favors a polished, balanced face with equal color emphasis on eyes, cheeks and lips, against a backdrop of luminous skin.
For evening, Mercier invites women to play up one feature, whether eyes or lips, such as a deep smokey eye paired with pale lips achieved with a touch of L’heure Magique’s “Dusk” or “Aurora” lipsticks ($22 each).
