Durable and sleek offerings by the British brand
From its roots in saddlery, Alfred Dunhill has grown to be recognized for the luxury of fine menswear, accessories, writing instruments and leather goods combining functionality with original craftsmanship.
Alfred Young inherited his father’s saddlery business in 1893 and, noting the rising popularity of the motorcar at the time, quickly introduced a line of goods called Dunhill’s Motorities for pioneering road warriors. The motorcar legacy asserts itself in accessories such as key fobs and money clips in the shape of steering wheels.
The 1,600-square-foot Dun-hill boutique at Ala Moana Center carries the brand’s full array of products, including small leather goods, watches, cuff links, pens and document cases.
Dunhill’s relevance over time is exemplified by a handful of vintage pieces on display, some left by devotees who, after 30 or 40 years of use, simply felt it was time to replace their beloved pieces. The vintage wallets and hats, still beautiful and usable, are a testament to Dunhill quality.
The brand’s signature mascot is the English bulldog, a gentle, if somewhat domineering creature who requires the guidance of an alpha personality, even if it’s a woman who appreciates fine writing instruments, automobiles and leather goods as much as any Dunhill man.
