Surrender that old tube of ChapStick and give one of these latest lip treatments a try.
Nothing is worse than going in for the midnight kiss on New Year’s Eve with dry, coarse and cracked lips. If your significant other has kissable lips and you are the one with a poor pucker, don’t pout—we’ve found some remedies to help smooth things out.
First, get rid of the dead skin peeling off your lips by using a lip scrub. Lush’s lip scrub, comes in Mint Julips or Popcorn ($9.95 each), contain coarse sugar or salt to help exfoliate your lips and leave them hydrated with natural oils like coconut or peppermint oil. We suggest you exfoliate your lips a couple times a week and follow with a lip treatment or balm to help keep your lips properly moisturized.
Dry lips, usually caused by changes in the weather or dehydration, can be prevented by using lip balms daily to lock in moisture. Lush’s lip balms ($7.25) include ingredients like shea butter, olive oil, honey, and beeswax to soften your lips. Another product on our radar is La Mer’s “The Lip Balm” ($52). Containing the brand’s patent Lip Lipid Complex and nutrient-rich Miracle Broth, this balm not only soothes rough spots and calms chapped lips, but also protects you from further damage.
Sunburn can be your lips’ worse nightmare, especially living in Hawai’i where the sun dominates year round. Considering your lips are one of the most exposed body parts, pick up a lip balm that contains SPF to help prevent sun damage. Th e Jack Black line created a tasteful array of lip balms that contain SPF 25 ($7.50). With flavors like lemon and chamomile or black tea and blackberry infused in the conditioners within the product, that waxy aftertaste you may have experienced in the past is virtually non-existent.
If those flavors and scents don’t make you smack your lips, try the classic mint balms from C.O. Bigelow.
Their Mentha Lip Balm Stick ($7.50 each) will invigorate your lips with shea butter and peppermint oil and leave them with a tingling sensation.
If you think, “lip balms are only for women,” then try Kiehl’s new lip balm formulated just for men. The Facial Fuel Non Shine Moisturizing Lip Balm ($9) helps prevents chapped lips and leaves lips with a matte finish. Smooth, calming protection sans the shine, gloss and fruity flavors.
