Top Chef’s Hugh Acheson Heads to Maui for the Ultimate Cooking Experience

Top Chef fans will have something to look forward to now that season 14 has ended and local boy Sheldon Simeon no longer graces your TV every week. Hugh Acheson, recurring Top Chef judge, former Top Chef Masters contestant and James Beard Award-winning chef and author, comes to Maui this Tuesday, April 4 for the Chef Bloc series at Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort.

Chef Bloc is a culinary event series hosted by Chef Isaac Bancaco of Ka’ana Kitchen that invites notable guest-chefs to join him in the kitchen to cook a multi-course themed dinner. Past Chef Bloc guest chefs include San Francisco-based chef Deuki Hong, Top Chef finalist and fan-favorite Sheldon Simeon, wine-maker Bret Miller and more.

The upcoming Chef Bloc, appropriately dubbed “50 Shades of Hugh,” will feature a curated five-course menu focusing on “quality, artisanship and creativity.” Both chefs will create an array of dishes with an emphasis on local Hawaiian ingredients and produce for the limited group of guests.

Acheson’s dishes include lamb leg with macadamia-mint salsa verde, peas and carrots and potato puree, and pineapple panna cotta with li hing mui mango, toasted fresh coconut, crisp farro and maple milk, to name a few. Bancaco’s dishes include Maui venison kinilaw with sesame dashi and white truffle, and cocoa mocha with Kula strawberries and peanut butter.

50 Shades of Hugh will be held in a contemporary beachside villa at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort from 6-9 p.m. Tickets for Chefs Bloc are $125. Reservations can be made by calling Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort at (808) 573-1234.
