Talk about transformation … I recently had the pleasure of meeting (and speaking a little French) with Tony Auvinet, a Vegas-based celebrity hairstylist, who recently traveled to Honolulu to be a guest stylist for Salon Blanc.
Sitting down with this stylish Frenchman at Panya Bistro over coffee, Tony filled me in on life in the South of France and his beauty industry accolades. With 25-plus years of styling experience under his scissors, in France, the U.K., Asia and the U.S., it’s no surprise that this self-professed “dreamer” and artisan dabbles in abstract art.
Wanderlust and ambition inspired him to travel the world, work in England and then move to China, where he sharped his shears in the modeling, movie, fashion and professional photo industries. Upon relocating to America, he quickly made his foray into the U.S. salon scene—and racked up a client roster of household names: Katy Perry, Victoria Beckham and Nicole Scherzinger among them.
But making a trip to Honolulu was especially special for Tony. Long-locked Alana Folen volunteered herself to have a seat in the stylist’s chair … and let Tony work his magic. Watching him free-hand paint balayage color, cut and style Alana’s hair with such vigor and enthusiasm was something only someone true talent and vision could effectively execute. Just view Alana’s before-and-after shots above, and see the transformation yourself.
“To be a hairstylist, it’s not only about hair … You have to listen to your customer. You have to feel,” he says, adding that after changing people, the word he most loves to hear is “wow.”
“Wow” was a word uttered multiple times during and after Alana’s transformation. If you’re visiting the “9th island” any time soon, I advise booking a makeover at Tony’s Mosaic Salon in Las Vegas…
