Actress, model And pro-Athlete hAnnAh cornett once lived in Hawaii and worked as a teaching assistant for a sixth-grade class of autistic children at Kapolei Middle School. She currently resides in Los Angeles, but made a special trip back to the Islands for this HILuxury swimsuit shoot. The 27-year-old has appeared in the film Surfer Dude, and may be back in Hawaii again to film a new TV series, Honolulu Social Diaries. Cornett also will be here Aug. 22 for the Tag the World Charity Celebrity Triathlon in Waikiki, benefiting Tag the World and the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii.

The Royal Hawaiian

The backdrop for this swimsuit shoot is The Royal Hawaiian. Known as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific,” it opened in February 1927 on 14 acres of prime Waikiki beachfront. The area was used as a playground for King Kamehameha I after he conquered Oahu, and Queen Kaahumanu’s Summer Palace was previously located in what is now the hotel’s Coconut Grove.

During World War II, The Royal Hawaiian was leased exclusively to the U.S. Navy as a rest and recreation center for the Pacific Fleet.

Today, the hotel’s distinctive Spanish-Moroccan architecture and rosy hue remain, but 21st century upgrades can be seen in completely refurnished guest rooms (pink-and-white custom wallpaper was designed by Philpotts & Associates), new beachfront and poolside cabanas, and the fine-dining restaurant Azure.

In July, the hotel partners with Matson and honors its history with a special exhibit of rarely seen pictures of Amelia Earhart. The aviatrix was photographed at The Royal Hawaiian in 1937.
