The beautifully appointed showroom was adorned with artwork by Tagami and Powell alongside the striking jewelry and menswear creations of Amos Kotomori. Philip M. Jelley Jr., a senior vice president of Sotheby's Auction House, treated guests to an illuminating presentation at the Pacific Club. During the evening seminar sponsored by Mary Worrall Associates Sotheby's International Realty, the renowned appraiser outlined tips for art aficionados to use when building their collections. Later, Jelley answered more questions as he mingled with guests at a cocktail reception.

James Beard award-winning Chef Cindy Pawlcyn and Napa Valley vintners Suzanne Pride Bryan and Stuart Bryan of Pride Mountain Vineyards joined forces with The Kahala Resort & Spa's executive chef Wayne Hirabayashi for two days of culinary bliss. Guests were treated to dinners hosted by Fred Schrader as well as a cigar seminar by Michael Herklots of Davidoff cigars of Geneva.

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa welcomed Chef Yuji Wakiya to his Waikiki restaurant where the two offered up a special eight-course omakase. As a preview to this special menu, the two partnered with Halekulani's executive chef Vikram Garg for a culinary benefit called "For Japan" at the Hau Terrace. The special menu combined the signature cuisines created by the three chefs: Chef Nobu's Japanese-Peruvian Cuisine, Chef Wakiya's Haute Chinese Cuisine and Chef Vikram's Neo-Classic Indian Cuisine. All proceeds from the event-which sold out within hours of being announced-benefited victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

Last year saw the launch of EuroCinema Hawai'i, a film festival dedicated to fostering positive exchange between the people of Europe and Hawai'i through film. Jimmy Choo helped the cause with a cocktail party fundraiser at a private estate that featured its Spring/Summer 2011 collection, raising $50,000 for EuroCinema Hawai'i.

Dazzle, a fundraiser for the Central Union Church Preschool and Kindergarten, is a much buzzed-about event each year. This year, guests gathered at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom to sample Master Sommelier Chuck Furuya's exquisite wine pairings for cuisine created by (among others) 12th Avenue Grill, Roy's, Le Bistro, Chai's Island Bistro and The Beach House at the Moana.

This year's theme for HOOPLA was, "LPEC, La Pietra Entertainment Central." The annual scholarship fundraiser for La Pietra was held at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's Monarch Room. In addition to a spectacular dinner, guests took part in spirited silent and live auctions.

Co-chairs Marilia Geisse and Helena Von Sydow assembled a delicious menu from, among others, Goran Streng of Tango Contemporary Café, Elmer Guzman of Poke Stop, and Alan Takasaki of Le Bistro.

This year's event honored Niklaus Schweizer (honorary consul of Switzerland) and Lt. Gen. Hank Stackpole, USMC (Ret.) for their work in diplomatic and international relations. Hawaii's Consular Corps dates back to 1824, when American and British representatives first met in the Islands.
March 2010 - April 2010 HILuxury: The American Heart Association's 33rd annual Heart Ball brought together numerous business and community names to Sheraton Waikiki Hotel for its fundraising gala. Auction items, dinner and dancing filled the night as patrons attended the celebration for a good cause.

March 2010 - April 2010 HILuxury: An opening party was held at the Salvatore Ferragamo Ala Moana store featuring the stars from Hawaii Opera Theatre's grand opera production of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. The opera, which debuted at the end of January, included principal artists Michael Chioldi, Inna Dukach and Honolulu's own Leon Williams in the title role of Figaro.
March 2010 - April 2010 HILuxury: The cast of Hawaii Opera Theatre's production of La Boheme converged on Louis Vuitton in Ala Moana for an invitation-only "Meet the Stars" party. HOT marks its 50th anniversary in 2010, showcasing several grand operas this season. La Boheme is an opera by Giacomo Puccini that inspired the contemporary Broadway musical Rent.
February 2010 - March 2010 HILuxury: Honolulu Academy of Arts hosted its 24th annual Kama`aina Christmas, a luxe gala that benefits the academy's general operating fund. Held on site at the Beretania Street gallery and museum, guests reveled in its "From Mauka to Makai" theme and enjoyed a special dinner, silent auction and drawing for accessories by Cartier.
February 2010 - March 2010 HILuxury: Christmas at Kona Village was presented on the Big Island by the American Culinary Foundation Kona Kohala Chefs Association. In its 21st year, the event featured sumptuous, island-fresh dishes and a live auction to fund local culinary scholarships and benefit the food service program at Hawaii Community College.

The new Orchid Suite, boasting an exclusive Steinway Lyngdorf entertainment lounge, is the latest addition to the hotel's Premier Suites set, which also includes the Royal and Vera Wang suites.

The event paid homage to the center's founders, including Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, former Hawaii governors John Burns, William Quinn and George Ariyoshi, and the late President Lyndon B. Johnson, whose daughters were in attendance. The East-West Center was established in 1960 by U.S. Congress to foster relations among Asian, Pacific and U.S. nations.
February 2010 - March 2010 HILuxury: Chef Laurent Tourondel has brought his world-renowned steakhouse to Hawaii, with the first BLT Steak opening in January in Waikiki. Guests came to celebrate the sleek new dining spot and savor the restaurant's menu of signature dishes. BLT (which stands for Bistro Laurent Tourondel) is located in the Trump International Hotel at the Waikiki Beach Walk.
December 2009 - January 2010 HILuxury: Held at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort, the 2009 March of Dimes Hawaii Chapter Governor's Ball honored Danny Kaleikini for his outstanding community service efforts. The March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and continues to provide support for research and services to better infant health.
December 2009 - January 2010 HILuxury: Hawaii Opera Theatre held its annual Opera Ball gala at the Sheraton Waikiki. This year's Opera Ball was especially significant, as it was the lead-in to HOT's 50th anniversary season. In appreciation of the support the organization has received from the community over the years, HOT will be hosting a free Gala Chorus Concert on Jan. 10, showcasing the best chorus arias of all time.
December 2009 - January 2010 HILuxury: The GIFT Foundation of Hawaii, a nonprofit organization comprised of young, service-oriented professionals, hosted a party on Halloween night. With an homage to "old Hollywood meets new Hollywood," the event featured a live auction and entertainment at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort.
December 2009 - January 2010 HILuxury: A stellar reception marked the start of the 2009 Cinema Italiano in Hawaii festival. From Nov. 5 to 8, Cinema Italiano in Hawaii showcased a diverse array of Italian films at Consolidated's Kahala Theater. This is the sixth year that Cinema Italiano in Hawaii, along with the Friends of Italy Society of Hawaii, have held the event in an effort to create a cultural bridge between Hawaii and Italy.
October 2009 - November 2009: Donald Trump Jr. visited the Islands on Aug. 11 and set foot on the site of the new Trump International Hotel & Tower at Waikiki Beach Walk. He was welcomed with an invitation-only event, where he mingled with guests and shared details of the new development.
October 2009 - November 2009: Robert Parks-Valletta founded the Tag the World organization in an effort to raise charitable awareness through fashionable events and personal involvement. With the help of actress/athlete Hannah Cornett, the Tag the World Charity Celebrity Triathlon was brought to Hawaii and celebrated with a festive luau at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
October 2009 - November 2009: Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation held its 12th annual Joy of Food & Wine at the Halekulani Hotel. The event, which raised funds for REHAB Foundation's Neuro programs, featured live music, wine and delectable Island cuisine by Halekulani Executive Chef Vikram Garg.
October 2009 - November 2009: In honor of Fashion's Night Out, an event spurred by Vogue magazine to stimulate the fashion industry, fashion capitals held festivities at the biggest shopping centers and design houses all over the world. Escada at Ala Moana Center joined the celebration by hosting an exclusive party and showcasing their latest designs.
October 2009 - November 2009: The House of Harry Winston held a private Ultimate Creations unveiling at the Halekulani Hotel's Royal Suite. This exclusive cocktail party showcased a stunning array of the world-famous jewelry house's exquisite gems and unique pieces.

Vittorio and Dialta Alliata di Montereale at the Grand Debutant Ball held this summer for the presentation of their radiant daughters at Rome's exclusive Circolo della Caccia. It was an evening of dreamy grandeur where all had a stupendous time.
August 2009 - September 2009: Chef Emeril Lagasse, noted for his charisma and unique take on Creole cooking, visited the Islands for a special appearance at The Kahala Food & Wine Classic. The host of TV's Essence of Emeril prepared a sumptuous dinner with signature New Orleans flavors paired with wines from Schrader Cellars. He also participated in a live cooking demonstration, creating Cajun and Creole dishes such as beignets and chicory coffee. The Kahala Hotel's Food & Wine Classic brings elite names in food and wine together in an intimate local setting. The culinary weekend has highlighted cuisines from Miami, Australia and Japan in the past, and continues to introduce Islanders to unique ingredients and insights from top professionals.
August 2009 - September 2009: One of the most notable events at the 2009 Maui Film Festival was the Taste of Chocolate, held on the night of June 19. Hosted at the Four Seasons Wailea, this culinary party boasted chocolate creations in many delectable forms, from a Chocolate Grand Marnier Souffle to a Chocolate Pot de Creme with Strawberry Chutney. The Four Seasons Wailea hosted an entire week devoted to chocolate leading up to the Taste of Chocolate night.
August 2009 - September 2009: An event that brings out the stars - both in the Wailea sky and from Hollywood - the 2009 Maui Film Festival lived up to its perennially stellar label of being the "Sundance Film Festival of the Pacific." This year's festival showcased numerous films, including (500) Days of Summer, featuring actress Zooey Deschanel. Deschanel was among several A-list celebrities who attended the event, joining Tori Spelling, Kristen Bell and Eddie Murphy, among others. Each year, the Maui Film Festival aims to honor gems in filmmaking and figures who have made an impact in the industry. Deschanel received a Nova Award, and musician Willie Nelson was given the Maverick Award this year.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: "Moonlight Magic" was the theme of this year's Hawaii Theatre Center black tie gala. Held at The Kahala Hotel & Resort, the event was chaired by Adm. (Ret) Tom and Sarah Fargo and drew supporters of the theater s work in the arts. The gala is Hawaii Theatre's annual major fundraising event. Built in 1922, Hawaii Theatre has served throughout time as a venue for shows, concerts, film and other entertainment. Hawaii Theatre Center is the nonprofit organization that owns and operates Hawaii Theatre, helping to maintain its presence as an iconic building in downtown Honolulu. In 2005, it was recognized as the "Outstanding Historic Theatre in America" by the League of Historic American Theatre.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann and "Queen of Talk" television host Oprah Winfrey shared a table at a gala dinner April 6 in Chicago honoring the International Olympic Committee (IOC). They attended at the invitation of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley to support Chicago's proposal to host the 2016 Olympic Games. Winfrey expressed how much she loves Hawaii and looks forward to spending time here. Hannemann said the Olympics present an exciting opportunity for the United States to showcase American athletic talent, foster meaningful relationships with other nations and draw thousands of international visitors to U.S. cities. He joined Daley and other officials to present to the IOC's Evaluation Commission the United States proposal to host the games. Hannemann emphasized to the commission that the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) strongly supports Chicago's Olympics proposal. Hannemann is chairman of the USCM Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: A luxe party was held at the Ala Moana Escada store to honor prominent Honolulu women who are patrons of local arts. Model Conrad Grodd and actress/model Rochelle Ovit (of CSI Miami, Nip/Tuck and Ugly Betty) flew in especially for the event, as did Escada's West Coast regional director Kerry Kooistra Maese and special events manager Kathryn Knox. Honolulu socialites and fashion mavens dined on canapes and cocktails as Escada showcased its latest offerings. A percentage of the proceeds benefited Honolulu Academy of Arts.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: The first Miu Miu store in Honolulu opened to the buzz of Hollywood stars and fabulously dressed fashionistas. Miu Miu, known for its cool-meets-classic handbags, clothes and accessories, is the second line created by Miuccia Prada, which was launched in 1992. Since then, the line has become a favorite of celebrities like Katie Holmes.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: Celebrities and burger enthusiasts attended a VIP opening party at The Counter in Kahala Mall. The California-based chain debuted its flagship Hawaii location in February, a new venture for world-renowned restaurateur D.K. Kodama and actor Daniel Dae Kim of the TV show Lost.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: Honolulu Symphony celebrated its 12th annual "Ports of Call" Symphony Ball in the Kalakaua Ballroom at the Hawaii Convention Center. Chaired by Rick Blangiardi, the event provided excellent entertainment, dining and festivities. Principal conductor Andreas Delfs and pops principal conductor Matt Catingub provided the orchestral direction for the night, while Chef Bev Gannon of Haliimaile General Store returned with an exquisite gourmet dinner menu. The ball also featured the signature "Marketplaces of the World" silent auction, which boasted international treasures, including jewelry, rare books, wine and spirits, fashion, fine art and music. The Symphony Ball welcomes more than 700 community leaders and supporters of the Honolulu Symphony each year. Since 1998, the fundraiser has raised more than $3.7 million for music education and enrichment programs.
June 2009 - July 2009 HILuxury: A party hosted by Fletcher Jones III celebrated the opening of the new Jaguar & Land Rover showroom on Ala Moana Boulevard. Guests at the event were treated to food by Elmer Guzman of Da Poke Stop, drinks and entertainment. The showroom was blessed, and attendees were able to see the newest offerings from Jaguar of Honolulu and Land Rover of Honolulu.

The ball buzzed with festivities from an auction of fine jewelry, art and other items, to an elegant dinner prepared with fresh, high-quality, heart-healthy ingredients. The event is a fundraiser to support the organization's mission to promote healthier living in Hawaii, with an emphasis on getting information out to the public about cardiovascular disease and stroke. The American Heart Association pioneers messages about maintaining proper nutrition and active lifestyles. The annual Honolulu Heart Ball is one of the year's best social events.
April 2009 - May 2009 HILuxury: After undergoing a major renovation, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel opened its doors with a fundraising gala for The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation. The event, held in partnership with Louis Vuitton, drew in A-list celebrities (Hayden Panettiere, Justin Long and Heather Graham), as well as Hawaii's most-prominent figures.

The fundraiser, held at the Sheraton Waikiki, featured fine dining and raised money for school tuition assistance and learning resources.

Event attendees wore traditional Scottish attire and were treated to a night of singing, dancing, poetry readings and an awards presentation.
February 2009 - March 2009 HILuxury: A celebration was held at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in honor of President Barack Obama's start in office on Jan. 20. The event also served as a benefit for the Hawaii Democratic Party and allowed guests to experience the new renovations of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Obama became the 44th President of the United States and made history as the first African American to hold the office. Obama is celebrated in Hawaii for his local ties, having been born in Honolulu and having graduated from Punahou School.
December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: The 2008 Governor's Ball was held at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom on Nov. 15. The event, a fundraiser for the March of Dimes Hawaii chapter, honored Mark Dunkerley and Hawaiian Airlines with the Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Award for Distinguished Community Service.
December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: Presented by AIG Hawaii, "The Joy of Food & Wine" was held at the Halekulani with special celebrity guest chef Pascal Olhats showcasing his culinary creations. Proceeds from this annual event have raised $1 million over the past 10 years it has been held.

December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: Harry Winston "dazzles" the night at The Contemporary Museum's "Gems and Little Jewels" event graciously hosted at the home of Sharon and Thurston Twigg-Smith. It was an evening of wonderful art, gems and jewels - highlighted with a Harry Winston Diamond Avenue C timepiece that rose to more than $23,000 to benefit the TCM.
December 2008 - January 2009 HILuxury: At the Hawaii Convention Center on Nov. 1, the Historic Hawaii Foundation honored Bert and Susan Kobayashi with the 2008 Kama'aina of the Year designation for their historical presevation efforts.
October 2008 - November 2008 HILuxury: Ballet Hawaii hosted a fundraiser Sept. 6, treating attendees to "Music of the Night." Held at a historic Nuuanu home owned by Stanford Carr, the benefit featured performances by stars of Return of the Three Phantoms, fine dining and an "unequaled, up-close Broadway experience."
August 2008 - September 2008 HILuxury: HILuxury marked its one-year anniversary with a celebratory event on June 3, 2008. Ruth's Chris Steak House in Waikiki buzzed with activity as HILuxury's contributors toasted to the magazine's milestone.
August 2008 - September 2008 HILuxury: Honolulu Symphony held its 11th annual "Ports of Call" Symphony Ball to the tune of orchestral music, dancing and festivities. The event serves as a fundraiser for the symphony's music education and community outreach initiatives.
August 2008 - September 2008 HILuxury: This year's Maui Film Festival drew cinema aficionados and A-list celebrities to the beautiful community of Wailea. Events were held from June 17 to 21, with honors being bestowed on Pierce Brosnan, Felicity Huffman, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Quaid for their work in film.
June 2008 - July 2008 HILuxury: The Contemporary Museum held its annual "ConTempo" black-tie event at Neiman Marcus, featuring an art sale and entertainment to benefit the local art institution. Under the "Latin Nights" theme, 500 guests danced to the sounds of Son Caribe and enjoyed a "Wines and Beyond" silent auction.
June 2008 - July 2008 HILuxury: Held at the Kahala Hotel and Resort, the Hawaii Theatre Center's annual black-tie fund-raiser drew guests for an evening of fine dining, auctions and stunning table favors from Tiffany & Co. ENCORE! was chaired by theatre board member Linda Ahlers. "Past guests have told us that our gala has some of the most selective and creative auction packages of any Honolulu fundraiser," Ahlers said. "Many items are so special that they otherwise could not be purchased at any price."
April 2008 - May 2008 HILuxury: Local fashionistas, celebrities and VIPs turned out en masse on March 5, 2008 for the opening celebration of Nordstrom in Ala Moana Center. The retailer's first Hawaii store debuted to the fanfare of a full runway fashion show, and guests were treated to an exclusive sneak preview shopping spree through Nordstrom's three-floors of designer wares. Proceeds from the event went to benefit Bishop Museum, Hawaii Theater Center and HUGS.
February 2008 - March 2008 HILuxury: The famed couture name celebrated a milestone anniversary in December 2007. Festivities held at the Dior store in Ala Moana Center unveiled Dior's 60th anniversary book and showcased the designer's influential style.
February 2008 - March 2008 HILuxury: Under the theme At Home for the Holidays, C.S. Wo and Neiman Marcus collaborated for an unforgettable event at the C.S. Wo Gallery in downtown Honolulu. The celebration featured table settings and holiday fashions from Neiman Marcus, as well as gourmet food and wine.
February 2008 - March 2008 HILuxury: Hot young designer Brad Batory self-dubbed Indashio showcased his Spring 2008 line at the Honolulu Design Center in January. Indashio's Viva Las Vegas collection debuted at last fall's New York Fashion Week, marking the arrival of the 23-year-old on the couture scene. From leopard-print frocks to slinky cocktail numbers, Indashio's style savvy; he's dressed Nicky Hilton and Tyra Banks, among others lit up the night. The event also raised funds for the Hawaii Adult Friends for Youth and the Hawaiian Development Community Board.
December 2007 - January 2008 HILuxury: Waikiki's Luxury Row on 2100 Kalakaua Ave. opened a fine arts exhibit Nov. 3 with a night of festivities. Retailers including Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Tiffany & Co. opened their doors to showcase in-store exhibits of work from noted artists like painter Alan Leitner and ceramist Daven Hee.
December 2007 - January 2008 HILuxury: The March of Dimes 2007 Governor's Ball was held at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom Saturday, Oct. 27. A fundraiser for March of Dimes efforts in the prevention of birth defects, the event featured entertainment and a presentation of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Award for Distinguished Community to former Governor Ben Cayetano.
August 2007 - September 2007 HILuxury: Manoa Valley Theatre's annual fundraiser featured entertainment by Jimmy Borges, Alethea Train and Cathy Foy. Under the title Manoa Marquee: A Celebration of the Arts in Hawaii, the fundraiser honored Mark Wong and Guy Merola of Commercial Data Systems for their dedication to the arts.
August 2007 - September 2007 HILuxury: The Honorable U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye received the East-West Center's Asia Pacific Community Building Award on Friday, June 1, 2007. The Center's annual fundraiser, held this year at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, was themed "The Magic of East & West," and raised money for East-West Center Scholarships.
June 2007 - July 2007 HILuxury: Honolulu Symphony benefactors toasted the "Ports of Call," the 10th annual ball at the Hawaii Convention Center. The affair boasted an interactive electronic auction, to bid and help bring music to thousands of Hawaii schoolchildren.
