Vanishing TV technology makes Seura a pioneer in a “hidden” market
Thanks to Seura Inc., an innovative niche in design technology has been formed.
Through its unique inventory of mirrors with built-in LCD TVs, Seura has been able to successfully marry customers’ increasing demands for aesthetics and cutting-edge electronics in home entertainment.
“Seura is a manufacturer of luxury products,” says Gretchen Gilbertson, who co-founded the company in 2003 with her husband Tim. “But more than high-end, high-quality products, we manufacture distinctive design solutions for homeowners who struggle to integrate technology into their home. Our customers don’t have to choose between beauty and technology. They have the freedom to design their living spaces around their individual style, instead of around their television.”
Seura’s TV mirrors function and appear as normal mirrors to the un-assuming observer. These mirrors are available to be installed in either a recessed or surface-mounted manner, and can be framed in a variety of ornate styles as seen on Seura’s website (www.seura.com). An LCD television screen is built into the mount, and when turned on for viewing, the television screen occupies a portion of the mirror with a high-quality picture projection. When not in use, the LCD screen is invisible, leaving behind only a crystal-clear mirror reflection.
Seura’s fixtures can be connected to any DVD player or home entertainment system, making it an efficient means of streamlining screen content at home.
“When we started, the trend was to introduce technological conveniences throughout the home,” says Tim. “Today, discriminating homeowners are moving away from obtrusive media installations and are seeking products that reinforce a sense of serenity and balance, without sacrificing function. That has created significant new demand for Seura’s products.”
Seura’s two main mirror lines are the Enhanced series, which offers screen displays from 15 to 26 inches, and the Premier series, with screen dimensions from 32 to 65 inches. Seura also introduced an illuminated mirror collection and the Lucidity Invisible Speaker System in 2007.
Seura’s products have been featured on Oprah, and can be seen in high-end lounges and hotels, including The Mondrian in Los Angeles, where custom-made TV mirrors were installed at $12,000 apiece.
