The Kaleidescape 3U Server features the most capacity offered by a Kaleidescape server with its three-unit rack-mount design, and a hot spare disk cartridge for unattended recovery from a hard drive failure. This redundant storage provided is a proprietary technology called RAID-K. If a drive fails, the Kaleidescape System continues to operate while data is automatically restored to the hot spare disk cartridge and no content is lost. The failed drive is replaced without turning off the server or disrupting playbacks that are in progress.

The 3U can expand up to a maximum of 14 disk cartridges, 12 of which can be used to store nine terabytes of your movies or music. The total uncompressed capacity enables storage for approximately 1,340 DVDs or 15,000 CDs. If more space is required, up to 12 servers can be scaled to provide up to 100 terabytes of seamless data storage.

The server requires a minimal 5.25 inches of rack space, and can serve up to 45 video or audio zones, or import four DVDs or CDs simultaneously. It automatically receives updates from Kaleidescape via the Internet.

The Kaleidescape System provides a compelling, yet easy-to-use interface, and can handle entire collections of DVDs or audio CDs of any size. It automatically organizes movie and music collections, protects them from loss and provides rich descriptive information for each DVD and CD. Once movies and music are stored on the Kaleidescape System, they can be enjoyed in any Player-equipped room.
