For Neely Neu of Chien Vivant Couture, those notions extend beyond finding the ideal couch for you and your family. Neu’s mission is to bring the same luxe amenities in furniture to your favorite quadrupeds – your beloved pups. They are now able to sleep in the same creature comforts of velvet and Swarovski crystals with Chien Vivant Couture’s custom dog beds.

Neu, who was born in Israel and studied and worked in the design and fashion hubs of Milan, France and Germany, came up with the idea of creating custom dog beds serendipitously. Her son Tom surprised her with a black cocker spaniel as a gift in January 2009. Ecstatic about her new pet Koko, Neu’s designer instinct searched for fitting place for the dog to sleep. With a strict eye for decor, Neu found nothing on the dog bed market that matched her home’s scheme. Her son then came up with a brilliant idea – to create these chic beds for dogs herself.

“It’s not just building a bed,” Neu says. “It’s an art. Each bed is like a craft.”

With her personal inspirations being Chanel and Ralph Lauren, the same clean, modern and sophisticated design concepts are seen in Chien Vivant Cou ture’s various pet bed lines. The Nice bed collection, for example, features silver metallic Italian faux leather with purple velvet. From the chic modern hound’s-tooth design of the Paris bed to the sharp, jewel-accented Signature Noir Collection, each Chien Vivant couture piece is painstakingly made, taking up to four to six weeks to produce. These limited edition creations can be further customized with personal embroidering and color choices to cater to your dog.

“(Owners should) choose a dog bed based on the dog’s personality and interior design of the house,” Neu says.

Neu strives to expand her line of pet amenities, working on a full doggie bedroom scheme she hopes to unveil soon. For the luckiest of pampered pups, Chien Vivant couture continues to make “living in the doghouse” nothing less than an amazing luxury.
